After singing a few struggle songs they concluded with Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika, doing only the Xhosa version. One cannot help drawing the comparison to how the South African Community shows it’s unhappiness with Steve Hofmeyr when he does “Die Stem”. We should then be consequent in our views when witnessing this.

What did stand out in this march was the behaviour of the participants, whether in control due to the disciplined march officials or by the very strong SAPS presence. The SA Police Services need to be congratulated on the professional manner in which they managed the event today.

The downside of the morning’s proceedings was the total disrespect that was offered our late Mayor Elza van Lingen, just a day after her Memorial Service. Many references were made in the petition speech about her alleged ignorance towards service delivery of the ANC wards.

The petition was read out and handed over to the newly appointed Mayor of Kouga Clr Horatio Hendricks. The petition demands a response within 7 working days, or another march will be scheduled as announced by the organiser. The Mayor agreed to this date. The marchers dispersed quietly afterwards.
