The Ocean supplies much of the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. That means no matter where you live, your life depends on the ocean. Our ability to manage impacts on the ocean will make a critical difference in sustaining the resources and ecosystems that we need to thrive.

Ocean trash is a serious pollution problem that affects the health of people, wildlife and local economies. Trash in the water and on the shore can kill marine animals, injure swimmers and beachgoers, and ensnare boat propellers.

Cleaning beaches helps to improve the coastal and ocean ecosystem by making sure that none of the trash kills marine life or is toxic enough to disrupt the marine life cycle. A beach clean-up is also an opportunity to gather fresh data about the state of our coasts and the types of trash that pollutes them.

By removing ocean trash from the list of severe challenges threatening our ocean’s health, we can help preserve the ocean’s resilience and strengthen its ability to provide for a shared ocean future that helps sustain all.

Relevant information for clean-up

• Start time: 8h till 12h.
• Meeting Points: Main Beach (by the dolphin statue) & Lower Point parking lot.
• We will meet at the main beach where we will hand out gloves, black bags and a data sheet to everyone.
• There is also a app which you can find on the app store called clean swells app. This app (unaudited method) can be used to collect data instead of using the hardcopy data sheet (audited method). It is worth noting that we would like a mixture of the 2 methods of collecting data, so not everyone will be able make use of the app.
• Teams will be assigned a cleaning site.
• Each person will need to be temperature scanned.
• Each team will receive a hand sanitizer.
• Each person must please bring their own face mask.
• Neighbourhood watch will assisted us with the safety and security of everyone involved.
• Lastly, we have 2 cleaning sites in St Francis Bay, if anyone maybe lives there please let us know so that we can arrange to get equipment to those people prior to the event as to avoid unnecessarily driving up and down.
