In times of crisis, leadership is not about sitting behind a desk — it’s about being present where the people need you most.
KOUGA MAYOR LEADING FROM THE FRONT
Over the past few days of severe weather, flooding, infrastructure damage, evacuations, and ongoing emergency response operations across the Kouga region, Executive Mayor Hattingh Bornman has consistently been on the ground, standing side by side with emergency personnel, rescue teams, municipal workers, and affected residents.
From early morning assessments to late-night emergency coordination, the Mayor has remained visible, actively involved, and continuously engaging with communities across the region. What has stood out most to many residents is not only the visible leadership during difficult conditions — but also the constant communication. Communities have been kept informed in real time through updates, videos, and on-site feedback as situations developed.
In some of the videos shared over recent days, one can clearly see the exhaustion and fatigue after long hours under immense pressure. Yet despite this, the work continues. The commitment continues. The presence continues.
Leadership during disaster situations is tested in the toughest moments — and Kouga residents have witnessed leadership that shows up, stays present, and keeps pushing forward alongside those working tirelessly to protect and assist communities.
JBay Online News extends appreciation to all emergency workers, rescue personnel, municipal teams, volunteers, and leadership currently working around the clock during this challenging period.
Communities notice the effort. Communities notice the commitment.
