WAVECREST WATCH ESTABLISHED

The increasing crime in Jeffreys Bay and specifically Wavecrest has necessitated the move for putting structures in place to curb this tendency and allow residents to take their neighbourhood back.

“There is no doubt that an influence from outside our area is behind most of the night time shopping” said Sarel Breytenbach who initiated the resurrection of patrols in the Wavecrest area. Activity is of such that SAPS are unable to be everywhere at once and as a result the watch was established.

Wavecrest Watch will operate in close consultation with SAPS and local security companies.
Carl Tramhs, owner of Shmart Security and Roy Hammond from ADT both committed themselves to assisting the Wavecrest Watch, whilst attending the launch at the Golf Club in Jeffreys Bay on Tuesday night, 6 October 2020.

Close on 100 residents turned up for the event where the outline structure was proposed for community consultation. The event was opened with an address by Lt Col Kiwiet, Jeffreys Bay Station Commander who commented on the increasing number of house breakings in the area and confirmed SAPS support for the community watch initiative.
After consultation with the community participants, a vote was cast and the Wavecrest Watch Executive Committee (WWC) was elected to serve for an interim period till February 2021 in order to formulate and manage the watch. The committee consist of:

Chairman: Sarel Breytenbach
Vice Chair: Pieter Bredenkamp
Operations: Jeannedre Bouwer
Finance: Johan Schamrel
Legal: Byron Shepherd
Public Relations & Communications: Gerhardt Fouche
Secretary: Jean-Marie Breytenbach

The Wavecrest Watch requires resident volunteers who are willing to assist with the patrols that are already underway.
Contact information for the various sectors will soon be published. Residents in Wavecrest are then requested to contact their various sector managers once published.
